So apparently every night at sundown in Austin Texas, the world's largest population of Urban Mexican Freetailed Bats, comes flying out from underneath a bridge near downtown! Cool, let's go see it! Especially since Jordan's Mom came flying into Austin to visit us and arrived only a couple hours before the bats were set to fly! (At dusk)
So we went to the park on the river to check it out! At dusk a few bats started flying out and we thought "wow, that's a lot of bats!" Then we walked closer to get a better view... And it started "raining" as in I got pooped on... A LOT! Jordan and Makayla laughed, Jordan's Mom helped get it off me and then the bats really hit the fan! Seriously! It was like a 10 minute ordeal of bats just flying out! Did I mention there's like 1.5 MILLION bats living under this bridge? No? Well it IS the world's largest urban population of bats!
Conclusion; if you are in Austin Texas before sundown, go to Congress Bridge and check out the bats! But DON'T under any circumstances, stand UNDER the bats as they come pouring out, or you will need a shower!

Cool! I like bats. We have several that live in our building up in the very top eves. It's fun to watch them fly away at night, I can't imagine 1.5 million thought! Fun. :)
ReplyDeleteGross. So basically we need to bring an umbrella if we go there? That is nasty.
