The older Makayla gets the more helpful/less helpful she becomes :-)
For example, after I had packed all of the kids clothes for the move
(minus what they would be wearing the last week and the drive)
In perfect piles of age and weather appropriate top to bottom-ness
She "helped" me REpack them into a new box in which SHE folded them and sorted them.
I couldn't yell at her though (even though I wanted to scream)
She was SO proud of helping Mommy!
So I just hugged her, said thank you
And send her off to do something less damaging to my OCD packing
(it should be noted, the ocd only lasts through the first stages of packing,
by the end it's an unholy mess!)
One thing I have learned in all of my moving though,
is that if you involve you children in the move, they can be more excited
and less... whatever about the move.
It still is a challenge, and they can become little pills during and after a move for some time
But it DOES help a little :-)
One of the things I let my kids do, is decorate their toy box for the summer.
That way when we pack it up, they know what it's for,
And when we unload it into our new residence,
They know exactly what's in it!

They were pretty proud to help too.
I had to add this picture, because even though Mak is turned around
I just LOVE Oscar's wink!
He practices it all the time with the ladies!
(yes, he is his father's son!)

I love those 'just like mommy does' moments with my girls - even though it is totally frustrating when they 'help' like that!
ReplyDeletelove the idea of decorating their toy box. genius!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I was totally laughing about the ocd only lasting the first phase of packing... i totally do that too!
