The Desert is Sand

My friend E recently took the kids and I on one last play date before we left St George.
She took us up to visit some sand dunes and some GOR-GE-OUS red cliffs.
It totally made me want to be a rock climber!
Or a hiker, or...
well heck, any type of outdoorsman, that I am not! :-P
But either way it was a blast!

Although we DID learn that next time:

Bring sand toys to sand dunes.
If we are going to picnic, use the tables, not the sand.
Some little girls don't like sand, but all little boys love it.
Wear flip flops not socks and shoes
And most importantly, it IS sand, and it WILL get every where :-)

Here is her son, making the long treck across the desert...
Just kidding, I was totally going to crop it so you could see him better,
but I am SO in love with the picture as-is
So I left him all alone walking amidst all that sand :-)

Oscar loved the sand.
LOVED it.

We had races in the sand.
Don't you just adore the rocks in the background?
See, now YOU want to be a rock climber too!

It was such a beautiful day,
super sunny, but nice and cool
with only a slight breeze toward the end
so we didn't get too much sand in our faces,
(from the wind, kids throwing it is another story...)

We dug up some loose sand and built a sand castle/mound

And Oscar rolled and swam in the sand.
Then he ate it.
Just put his face right in it and started chowing down!

I was horrible about getting a picture of Little Miss O!
But then I also forgot to make a random stranger take a picture of all of us together too.
pooey!

Makayla went back and forth on whether or not she wanted to be dirty
But whatever brought her closer to getting her castle,
she was ALL for :-)
Poor little girl DID get some stickers in her feet though
And when we got home later that night she told her Daddy ALL about them!
Numerous times!

Mr. D decided to hunt for treasure.
It was awesome.
And next time we go I am TOTALLY drawing this kid a treasure map and burying SOMEthing
for him to find, because every kid deserves to dig for treasure and find it.

Little Miss T was not a big fan of the sand.
She started the day by running to the edge of it,
dipped her toes in and would not budge another inch until she was held by her mommy.
Good thing we had her wubby to sit her on!
She was not a fan of the dirty :-)

And Oscar...
Well I told you he loved it didn't I?

Thank you E, you TOTALLY made me see the good side of the desert!
And I will definitely be going back to the sand dunes this fall!
AND making sure that Oscar gets a sand box!
