The first bite is the deepest

I honestly have no idea why this song is in my head, but it deserved a title post at least
:-)

In the meantime...
Oscar has been having fun at his personal all you can eat, 24 hour service snack buffet!
It was all good, until he decided he needed to eat every 2 hours, for the past 72 hours!
Really, he doesn't even sleep more than 2 hour stretched any more!
Needless to say, this makes for a VERY tired and sore Mama!
So we are trying something new, adding a little more "meat" to his diet!
....sans the meat :-)

He has been watching us eat for a while now. His eyes on the spool (or fork) as it goes up and down and in our mouths. He even licks his lips and opens his mouth waiting for a bite!
Hillarious! But the doctor said he wasn't quite ready yet, maybe in 2-3 weeks.
After his 72 hours of 2 hour feeding though, I was inclined to disagree and try to start anyway.

My disclaimer: I LOVE my pediatrician! Absolutely adore her, don't even know how I went without one for Mak! And when I called her and told her about his new eating habits, she agreed that I should try adding some solids to his diet. She recommends, nursing (or bottle-feeding) first, THEN the food. That way they are still getting all the nutrition they need.

That being said. Here was our first experience with rice cereal.
4.5 months old
He was so excited when I put the bowl in front of HIM! He could hardly believe it.
He was smiling so BIG! And he couldn't take his eyes off the spoon! Literally!

He opened wide for it...
But not quite understanding the "close your mouth afterward" part, a lot of it just ended up...
there.

When he finally DID close his mouth and he realized something was in there...
There were a few moments of panic

Followed by some thoughtful "almost" chewing

And finishing with a good old fashioned...
"what the heck was that mama?" face.

Yes, all of these pictures are just from ONE spoonfull :-)
All in all he took at least 5 spoonfulls of the stuff.
With the same reaction to each one.
Laughable.
We'll probably try again tonight.
He slept at least 4 hours this morning from about 6am to 10am, but still with the lack of actual GOOD sleep :-( the rest of the time is still nothing more than 2 hours of sleep.

Here's to a better nights rest tonight, and much more baby food in the future!

  1. You must be exhausted! I remember both kids going through a phase like that, I hope it doesn't last long.

  2. He is just so cute! Sorry he's not sleeping though, my boys did the same thing too, I'm sure once he starts eating more "real" food he'll sleep better! remember that I'm here if you need a "I'm a sleep deprived mother of 2" vent session :) love you :)
